A.J. Hawk lays out fan with tackle during celebrity golf tournament (video)
Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk is taking part in the American Century Championship Celebrity Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe this week, a last-gasp of summertime fun and free time before he and his teammates get back to football and begin training camp next week in Wisconsin.
A fan in the gallery watching the action during Thursday’s practice round, for some reason or another, decided it would be a good idea to ask Hawk to tackle him, a request the bruising linebacker was more than happy to oblige.
“He guy was a big guy, too, so I was kind of worried for a second. I wasn’t sure if I should do it or not,” Hawk told ABC-2 WBAY. “but his buddies were the ones egging me on, saying ‘Kill him, do it, take him down.’
“I hit him pretty solid, right in the ribs with my shoulder. It felt good. I thought for a second that the guy might turn when I was coming, he might turn on me and try to hit me. So I said I kind of have to give it my all. I didn’t want to go to the ground; I really thought I was going to rip my pants as well. But I didn’t, so that was a victory.”
It looks like the fan was no worse for wear, but as far as Hawk’s tackling technique is concerned, not to nitpick, but he failed to wrap-up when sending the guy to ground. Poor form, man, although had Hawk really laid out the guy, the poor sap may still be firmly planted in the grass.
It was probably out of pity more than anything. And if not, chances are Hawk will clean up his tackling technique during training camp.
