Jennie Finch blows fastballs by Adrian Peterson during celebrity softball game (video)
Adrian Peterson may be a world-class athlete all the way around, especially when he’s steamrolling defenders as running back for the Minnesota Vikings, but even supremely talented athletes can be made to look foolish when they are taken out of their comfort zone.
Such was the case during Sunday’s All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game at Target Field when Peterson, who said he hasn’t “swung a bat in like 15 years,” looked not only completely baffled but a little bit intimidated when standing in the box against legendary U.S. Olympic softball pitcher Jennie Finch.
Even though Finch retired from softball in 2010, it certainly appears that she’s still got it, as she blew fastballs by the 2012 NFL MVP.
After having the first pitch blow by him, Peterson, and this is where there appears to be some disagreement, managed to foul off two fireball offerings from Finch before grounding out to third base.
Peterson insists he got some bat on the two pitches — and received credit for them — but Finch disagreed, saying in jest, “No — he’s full of it!”
The two enjoyed a playful exchange while Finch emasculated Peterson with her fastballs.
“Yeah, I said, ‘Don’t take it easy on me. I want you to come with a fastball,’ ” Peterson said. “She said, ‘What else?’ I said, ‘changeup.’ Initially I thought she was going to continue to throw them underhand, but she saw I was serious.”
Finch confirmed Peterson’s characterization of the conversation.
“He kept saying, ‘You’ve got to bring it. You’ve got to bring it.’ So, I brought it,” she quipped.
Such a good sport… @AdrianPeterson was asking for me to bring the heat. He go it. 3 strikes …he’s asking 4 a rematch! #CelebSoftball

But it was all in good fun, and despite coming up empty, Peterson insisted he enjoyed himself.

Ouch. The looks on Peterson’s face certainly tells the story, do they not?
And let’s face it, not only would regular folks who have played some baseball in their time not stand a chance at making contact with a Finch heater, some of the big league stars in Minneapolis for the All-Star Game might have struggled to make contact with a blazing pitch from Finch from so close at least once or twice. The girl can bring it.
