Sporting KC’s Dom Dwyer takes selfie with fans after scoring goal (photo/video)
Sporting Kansas City’s Dom Dwyer is known as a prolific goal scorer, but that does not mean that he doesn’t get excited after putting one behind an opponent’s goalie. Soccer players are notorious for grandiose celebratory displays — perhaps because goals come at a premium in the grand sport — so Dwyer pulled out a real humdinger of a celebration following a netting of nifty goal — his 12th of the season — during Sunday’s match against the Chicago Fire. Dwyer ran to the corner of the pitch where he was given a cell phone, presumably by a Sporting KC staffer. He then ran towards the stands and snapped himself a selfie with teammate Soony Saad and some Sporting KC fans in the background. The MLS team tweeted the image afterward.

But not everything was hunky dory in the wake of the unconventional goal celebration as the referee tagged Dwyer with a yellow card for the star’s over-the-top exhibition.
The question is: Was it worth it? Yeah, probably. Odds are, unlike the No Fun League, Major League Soccer will not feel compelled to do anything further regarding the amusing sideshow … which is good.
