Tim Lincecum dons USMNT jersey, knight’s helmet following no-hitter (GIF)
Tim Lincecum notched his second career no-hitter on Wednesday, once again shutting down the San Diego Padres, the same team the San Francisco Giants pitcher no-hit last season on July 13. This time, Lincecum only needed 113 pitches compared to the staggering 148 he threw in his first gem last year.
Lincecum walked one and struck out six as he became only the second Giants pitcher to have two no-hitters in his career, joining Christy Mathewson (1901, 1905).
He also contributed to the cause with the bat in his hands, getting two hits, drawing a walk and scoring two runs in the 4-0 win.
With his second no-hit bid, Lincecum’s major league resume puts him in some pretty heady company, as he joins the great Sandy Koufax as the only pitchers in MLB history to have two World Series rings, two Cy Young Awards and two no-hitters. Darn impressive.
Lincecum was taking it all in stride following his stellar mound performance.
“Right now, I guess it’s really cool,” Lincecum said. “When I get older, I’ll be able to reflect on it a little bit more and take it for what it’s worth. Right now, I’m still kind of just in the moment.”
Perhaps most impressive — or at least cool — is how Lincecum bucked convention and flaunted tradition by chatting and joking around with teammates in the dugout and on the field throughout the game. Pitchers typically are avoided like the plague the deeper they take a no-hitter into a game.
“I figure it’s more awkward when they don’t talk to you than when they do,” he said.
The loosey-goosey nature of Lincecum’s approach continued during the celebration following the game, as he threw on a personalized USMNT jersey.

To complete the look, he also donned a knight’s helmet in a boisterous clubhouse.
Now that’s how you do it.
When asked what his plans were after leaving the stadium, Lincecum hinted that he may have a little fun once he got home.
“I’m going to go to my house and drink a little bit,” he said with a grin on his face. “Can I say that?”
Of course he can. Awesome.
The only thing that would have made the night better is if Lincecum was still rocking that fantastically awful prepubescent mustache he was sporting earlier this season. Oh well.
