‘The Decision Part 2, Electric Boogaloo’? LeBron James will opt out of contract
In a relatively surprising turn of events, LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, reportedly already has informed the Miami Heat that his client intends to exercise the early termination option on his contract with the team and become a free agent. Apparently, Pat Riley challenging LeBron to return if he’s “got the guts” wasn’t enough to sway the superstar’s preference to draw an excess amount of attention to himself this summer.
The news of the impending doomsday scenario where the public will be subjected by endless speculation, hearsay and flat-out conjecture originally was reported by ESPN’s Chris Broussard on Twitter and later confirmed by USA Today’s Sam Amick, also on Twitter.
Of course, the above-mentioned drawn-out spectacle likely will culminate in a more absurd kind of circus sideshow spectacle that will undoubtedly come to be known as “The Decision Part 2.”
Feel free to add on the “Electric Boogaloo” at your discretion if references to 1980s movies revolving around break dancing is your kind of thing. Either way, if the reports are accurate and LeBron will in fact test free agency — which does not necessarily mean he will not return to the Heat — be prepared for months and months of annoying “reporting” that essentially will be nothing more than throwing crap at a wall and seeing what sticks. Look no further than the fervor generated by Savannah James, LeBron’s wife, creating a veritable Internet wildfire on Monday by simply posting the following image to Instagram:
Between LeBron’s presumed free agency, Carmelo Anthony opting out of his deal with the New York Knicks to see if the grass is indeed greener on the other side of the fence along with the Kevin Love Trade Sweepstakes, it’s going to be a long summer of tiring and mind-numbing speculation, man.
The dominoes are pretty much all set up now. All it’s going to take to get them toppling is for LeBron to give them a bit of a nudge. But don’t expect him to do that anytime soon.
