Jayson Werth Souvenir Roundup: Garden Gnomes and BobbleBeards (photos)
Big-time baseball stars frequently are paid tribute with Bobblehead Nights, but when a particular player has some specific thing about him that makes him unique, transcending both the game and even the player himself — such as Hunter Pence’s profound love for his beloved scooter, which was featured with his bobblehead — it makes for a grand opportunity for some pretty clever bobbleheading.
Take, for instance, Jayson Werth. The Washington Nationals outfielder has become a fan favorite, not only due to his play, but also for his peculiar eccentricities, which begin and end with his sometimes unkempt appearance, a look that is highlighted by his long hair and magnificently scraggly beard.
With that in mind, two souvenir offerings from the Washington Nationals — one from the big league club, the other from the Potomac Nationals, the team’s Class A Advanced affiliate — seek to highlight what makes Werth such a unique ballplayer. And as you will see, both souvenir items accomplish that goal wonderfully.
First up, on Aug. 5, the Nationals will give out a Jayson Werth Garden Gnome to the first 25,000 fans through the turnstiles at Nationals Park.
And then the real doozy of a humdinger of a souvenir. On Saturday, the Potomac Nationals will be handing out these miraculous bad boys … behold, the Jayson Werth BobbleBeard:

Awesome. More than awesome, even. Utter genius. And a little bit scary as well. Even scarier, perhaps, is another offering from the Potomac Nationals later this summer involving Werth. On Aug. 16, the team will be giving away a Jayson Werth “Wolf-a-Rine” figurine, which is exactly what is sounds like: A werewolf version of the hairy outfielder.
Awesome. And again, a wee bit frightening.
