Reds writer’s laptop destroyed by Pablo Sandoval foul ball (vids/pics)

There are many things about being a beat writer that could prove to be annoying: The long days and nights spent at the ballpark, trying to make a deadline, the grind of being on the road and so on and so forth. Mark Sheldon, a writer for Reds.com, can add another annoyance to the list: Having one’s laptop utterly demolished courtesy of a foul ball flying into the press box.

During the 8th inning of Tuesday’s tilt between the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park, Sheldon had his laptop destroyed when a foul ball passed through the opening in front of the press box and bore straight down on his computer. Result? Foul ball, 1, Laptop, 0.

Sheldon’s colleagues not only jumped at the opportunity to document the carnage (below), one of them loaned their laptop to Sheldon so he could file his report.

What will Sheldon do with his destroyed laptop, you ask?

“I don’t know right now,” Sheldon said, via Cincinnati.com. “I might heave it into the Ohio River.”

Videos documenting the laptop homicide by a Kung-Fu Panda foul ball follows, as well as photos from both Sheldon and his press box pals.

Tough break, to be sure. But something tells me — at least I hope — that Sheldon isn’t footing the bill to replace that critical piece of work-related equipment and that MLB.com covers the cost.
