Players left stunned after child is drilled in head by Carlos Gomez foul ball (video)
An incredibly scary moment played out during Tuesday’s game between the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers at Turner Field that it left even the players on the field standing in stunned silence.
During his at-bat in the 7th inning, Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez absolutely smoked an offering from Braves pitcher Julio Teheran into the stands along the first baseline above the Braves dugout.
Teheran heard the ball strike the child and sank into a horrified crouch on the mound almost immediately.
“That was scary for me,” Teheran said. “I knew it hit somebody. It was a fast and hard. No one had a chance to get out of the way.”
Gomez followed suit in reacting to the horrifying incident, crossing himself shortly afterward.
Medical personnel quickly were at the child’s side and he was quickly carried up the aisle and treated. The Braves reported that the child was “conscious ant talkative” before being taken to the hospital.
At the time of a New York Daily News report regarding the incident, no additional details were available regarding the boy’s condition.
The Braves issued a statement which read in part: “The team and all of Braves Country have him in our thoughts and prayers.”
