Twins announcer laughs at Red Sox pitcher after he falls off mound (video)
A comedy of errors (or error) turned into a source of comedy for Minnesota Twins broadcasters, in particular play-by-play man Dick Bremer.
During Wednesday’s tilt against the Boston Red Sox at Target Field, BoSox reliever Burke Badenhop expertly fielded a one-hop come-backer to the mound. As he turned and attempted to relay a throw to second base for a force out, he threw wildly, missing his teammate covering the bag by a mile and the ball rolled out into second base as Twins baserunners advanced a bag.
Badenhop crouched down on the mound in disappointment and embarrassment over his wild throw and as he attempted to stand back up, he took a bit of a tumble off the mound.
It was a slightly amusing scene, but Bremer found it the epitome of high comedy. As broadcast partner Bert Blyleven analyzed the replay, Bremer couldn’t stop laughing.
“I’m sorry,” he said, “I shouldn’t laugh,” as he continued to chuckle. Come on, Bremer, be a professional. At least have the good sense to mercilessly mock him if you’re going to laugh at him, too.
