Fan nearly has cranium caved in by Steve Pearce’s smoked foul ball (GIF)
A fan seated right above the visitor’s dugout should be thanking his lucky stars he didn’t wake up in a few weeks in a hospital after a medically induced coma after very nearly having his skull crushed in by an absolutely smoked foul ball off the bat of the Baltimore Orioles’ Steve Pearce.
The very frightening incident that was a mere inches away from a possible tragedy occurred during the top of the 6th inning of Baltimore’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Tuesday. Pearce somehow got his bat on a down and in pitch and ripped it foul above the Orioles’ dugout.
The man, who should be noted didn’t have his eye on the action — an absolute no-no when seating in the prime seat he was occupying — did not realize a ball was bearing down on him with incredible velocity until after it whizzed by his ear.
Holy moly, man. That was close. A few more inches to the right and that could have been a disturbing scene of blood, bits of cranium and gore, meaning that guy may have never ever been the same man he was when he sat down to take in the ballgame. Yeesh.
