Robinson Cano surprises Yankees fans booing a display featuring him (video)
Robinson Cano will pay his first visit to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday after heading west to sign a 10-year, $240 million deal with the Seattle Mariners during the offseason.
Of course, Cano should expect boos to rain down upon him — among other kinds of less savory, more profane forms of heckling and commentary — throughout the three-game series.
During Monday’s “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Yankees fans were set up for a big surprise — and some embarrassment followed by, in some cases, some serious backpedaling.
The ruse was perpetrated like this: Yankees fans were provided the opportunity to voraciously boo a cardboard display featuring Cano by a reporter. What these Yankees fans were unaware of is that Cano was hiding behind the display.
Boom. The turnaround on the fans’ attitudes once confronted by Cano himself was quite the hoot.
It must be strange for Yankees fans to have strong feelings about a player taking the big money and not have it involve their favorite team pilfering other team’s rosters instead of the other way around.
