Mike Napoli dislocates finger on slide and it’s disturbingly obvious (GIF)
Ouch. Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is considered day-to-day after dislocating his finger during the team’s 2-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. It became pretty clear relatively instantly that he messed up his finger pretty bad, because, you see, his finger was pointing in a direction one typically doesn’t associate with an intact digit. Nasty.
Yamma hamma. Napoli suffered the gruesome during the ninth inning when he tried to advance to second base on a wild pitch by White Sox reliever Donnie Veal. As he slid headfirst into the second base, his left ring finger got caught up on the bag, bending disturbingly. And then staying like that.
X-rays reportedly were negative.
“Good dirtball read like that, I was digging myself, and then I looked at my finger and it’s freakin’ sideways so it’s good news it’s not broken,” Napoli said, via boston.com. “I know I hit the bag pretty hard and I looked and it was right there in front of my face, then I saw it and I went, ‘oh, God’ [umpire] Jim Joyce was going ‘oh my God,’ calling for the trainer. It’ll be all right.”
