Sergio Garcia nearly falls into greenside bunker on at Masters (GIF)
Ending up in one of Augusta National’s treacherous greenside bunkers is usually a bad thing for a golfer if their ball winds up in said sand trap. Personally falling into one of them? Arguably even worse.
Sergio Garcia almost fell victim to a plunge into the greenside bunker on the 11th hole during the second round of the Masters on Friday. Garcia was playing the role of courteous player on Amen Corner by trying to get out of the way of playing partner Bubba Watson (the two are also paired with Luke Donald) as the lefty scoped out a putt. Sergio edged a little bit too far onto the lip of the bunker near the green of “White Dogwood” and nearly toppled in.
Thankfully, he caught himself just in time and staggered around the bunker’s edge before regaining his footing. It was quite the humorous scene.
For the record, Sergio managed to hole his birdie putt on the par-4 hole, and at the time of this post, stands 3-over for the tournament, tied for 43rd and eight off the pace set by leader Bubba Watson, so Sergio is getting an up-close look at who he is chasing.
