Vincent Lecavalier hits both posts, crossbar on shot, doesn’t score (video/GIF)
Philadelphia Flyers center Vincent Lecavalier was on the receiving end of some unbelievably bad luck the second period of Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings. Lecavalier seemed to do everything right on a point-blank, wide-open shot following a sweet feed from teammate Brayden Schenn, but things did not go as expected.
With the Flyers down 1-0, Lecavalier’s effort at scoring an easy goal to tie up the game proved moot after it got past Kings netminder Jonathan Quick, getting turned aside by the right post … then the crossbar … then the left post before clanking harmlessly out of the goal mouth.
The goal horn even sounded, but play continued after the goal was waved off by an official. In the end, it was all for naught, as a video review confirmed that no part of the puck crossed the goal line.
“Honestly, I wasn’t sure,” Lecavalier told CSN Philly. “I thought it hit the back of the crossbar, like the back of the net under the bar … I couldn’t believe it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen three posts.”
Most folks haven’t.
The missed opportunity proved to be critical, as the Flyers dropped the game by a score of 3-2. Double fiddlesticks.
