Sprite launches limited edition flavor inspired by LeBron James (photos)
Sprite announced on Wednesday that the company will be releasing a limited edition run of the soda with a flavor inspired by LeBron James.
Called the “Sprite 6 Mix by LeBron James,” the special edition soda features Sprite’s traditional lemon-lime flavor infused with cherry and orange. It is assumed that the flavor tastes like victory.
The product is expected to hit shelves in mid-March and will be available in 20-ounce bottles and 19.2-ounce cans. The cans and bottles feature a custom logo that has LeBron’s name, jersey number and a crown meant to represent the Miami Heat star’s moniker, King James, all over a background image featuring his initials.
“I never imagined I would have my own flavor someday,” James said in a statement, via an ESPN.com report. “I had a great time working with the Sprite team to turn my favorite flavors into a pretty cool variation of one of my favorite brands. I’m proud of what we created and I’m excited for my fans to try it.”
LeBron has had an endorsement deal with Sprite since his rookie season in the NBA.
James’ affiliation with Sprite aside, it would have been far cooler had he partnered up with a less traditional — and less popular — carbonated beverage and released a special edition soda, Say, RC Cola, perhaps. Why? Because RC Cola rules, that’s why.
