New Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer treats media to lunch and film session (photo)
As the old saying goes, “The way to a sports reporter’s heart is through his stomach.” Well, that’s actually never been said, but it doesn’t make it any less true. Especially when it involves a free meal.
New Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer invited the local beat writers working at the Twin Cities dailies over to Winter Park, the team’s official headquarters in Eden Prairie, to nosh on some grub and a film session from the coach himself.
Let’s just hope no media member went all “Randy Moss” on the food provided.
Pretty sweet move on Zimmer’s part. Ingratiating oneself to the local media with such a friendly gesture can’t hurt the chances that the ink-stained wretches may be willing to take a more favorable view of Zimmer as he attempts to rebuild the team in his image and turn around the franchise.
After all, Christian Ponder for all intents and purposes is the only legitimate quarterback currently on the roster. That’s why Adrian Peterson calling for the team to pick up Michael Vick did not seem quite so insane.
Since Zimmer is a defensive-minded coach, though, it’s likely he’ll allow offensive coordinator Norv Turner and general manager Rick Speilman to deal with that mess. Frankly, he has enough to worry about with the defense.
Still, have to wonder what was served, though. Actually, it probably didn’t matter, at least to the beat writers. Free food is free food is free food.
