Sergey Volkov of Russia provided an Olympic crash for the ages during the Men’s Moguls Qualification at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on Monday. After navigating the dangerous ups and treacherous downs of a section of the moguls run, Volkov approached the second jump on the course.
That’s when things got out of control.
While wither attempting a double back flip or rotating on a single back flip, Volkov was totally out of control as he careened towards the unforgiving downward slope. He crashed spectacularly with his head being one of the first part of his body to smash into the ground. And he slammed into the slope with such force that his goggles came flying off:
Miraculously, Volkon not only escaped serious injury he also completed his run, although he did cross the finish line backwards.
All said, it’s still impressive he was able to stand up on his own after that gnarly crash.
