Last week, New York Yankees skipper Joe Girardi went full-on cheese mode during the press conference where the team’s latest high-profile, high-buck free agent acquisition, former Boston Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, was officially introduced to the New York media.
In a cringe-inducing comment, Girardi told Ellsbury: “You’re no longer a thorn in our side, you’re a flower in our clubhouse.” Ugh. And let’s throw in a “Egad” for good measure.
On Friday, the Yankees formally introduced another offseason acquisition, veteran Carlos Beltran. And while it took longer than expected to make the 3-year, $45 million deal official — something that prompted general manager Brian Cashman to get testy with a reporter — it did not mean that the Bronx Bombers did not roll out the red carpet to welcome Beltran into the Yankees family.
And how did the Yankees make Beltran feel comfortable and at ease in pinstripes? By bestowing gifts upon his adorable daughters.
The girls, dressed in matching dresses, were presented with their own Yankees jackets by Cashman.

Well, that’s just too cute for words.
Is this a sign of a kindler, gentler Evil Empire? Say it ain’t so.
