Washington Capitals don ugly Christmas sweaters, ‘perform’ rocking version of ‘Jingle Bells’ (video)
There is so much wrong going on in this video of several Washington Capitals players “performing” a rocking version of “Jingle Bells.” And at the same time, there is so much that is right going on, too. It’s like a double-whammy of awkward excellence.
First of all, the players are all sporting ugly Christmas sweaters, which is turning into a theme for NHL teams this holiday season.
Next up, the players all are “playing” instruments. As noted by Russian Machine Never Breaks, the “musicians” are:
“Alex Ovechkin on the bells, Brooks Laich on the drums, Joel Ward on an inflatable pink saxophone, Aaron Volpatti on the guitar, Nicklas Backstrom on the tambourine, John Erskine on a pre-k piano, Tom Wilson on the ukulele, and– of course– Mike Green rocking the cowbell.”
It truly has to be seen to be believed. It’s awful, awesome, hilarious and kinda sad, all at the same time, kind of like the holidays. So here you go:
Fantastic. And terrible. Cheesy, yet brilliant. Flawed and at the same time flawless.
But the true star, as is the case on the Capitals team, is Ovechkin. Check out that mustache and missing tooth. Never before has Ovie looked more like screen legend Richard Kiel. To wit:
Good grief, Ovehckin could be Kiel’s son, man.
