Following his return, Kobe Bryant says the last time he had this much time off he was a fetus
Kobe Bryant was understandably rusty in his first game back with the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. And while Kobe’s return was greeted with excitement and anticipation, anyone who thought he instantly would be the Kobe of old after so much time off following surgery and rehab after suffering on a torn Achilles tendon back in April was not being realistic.
Following the team’s loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, Kobe gave himself an “F” for his overall play, a game in which he played 28 minutes, shot 2-9 from the floor, scored nine points, snagged eight rebounds and committed an atrocious eight turnovers.
The turnovers seemed to bother Kobe the most, admitting, “I failed miserably at that.”
But the money quote from Bryant on Sunday was how he characterized the length of time he was away from game action as he rehabbed.
“I think the last time I had eight months off I was still in the womb,” Bryant joked, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
If I have it right, that means unless Kobe was born prematurely, the soon-to-be newborn must have dribbling a basketball and doing layup drills in his mother’s womb for at least a few weeks before he was born, right?
Probably not, huh? So, you’re saying he was just joking, huh? Gotcha.
