Miss Manners approves: Ed Orgeron writes USC marching band thank you notes (pic)
Coming from a guy who ingeniously explained his decision to bring back desserts to the training table by stating, “You feed a lineman a cookie, he’s happy,” perhaps it should come as no surprise that Ed Orgeron, the interim head coach of the USC Trojans football team, hand-wrote individual thank-you notes to members of the school’s marching band.
A tweet posted on Wednesday evening by The Spirit of Troy, the official Twitter account of the USC Trojans Marching Band:
This is SO awesome. Everyone, every single member, got a personally-adressed note today from @CoachOUSC. THANK YOU! pic.twitter.com/qWDQETwLkG

Orgeron, who replaced Lane Kiffin as head honcho after his tenure turned out to be a total train wreck, has rejuvenated the football team through his enthusiasm and the complete reshaping of procedure and protocol. Kiffin, you may recall, was unceremoniously fired by AD Pat Haden at 3:00 a.m. before the team’s bus headed back to campus from the airport following a 62-41 loss at Arizona State on Sept. 28.
And still, despite his impressive turnaround of the program that has left the Trojans sitting at 7-3 heading into a pivotal showdown with the No. 5-ranked Stanford Cardinal on Saturday at Memorial Coliseum, the fact that Orgeron took the time to send members of the marching band personal thank you notes shouldn’t be underestimated as it relates to his dedication to improving not only the football program, but each and every cog that helps the team shine on Saturdays.
