On Saturday, when the Nevada Wolfpack face the UNLV Revels Clarence Mackay Stadium in Reno, the teams will set the in-state rivalry aside in order to show solidarity with the victims of the tragic middle school shooting that occurred at Sparks Middle School on Tuesday.
Both teams will wear decals on their helmets that feature the school’s initials as well as a Golden Bear, its mascot.
Sparks Middle School, located nearby the University of Nevada campus, was the scene of yet another senseless act of in-school violence when a 12-year-old boy shot and killed math teacher Michael Landsberry, a veteran of the Marines, who bravely and heroically walked toward the armed boy calmly and by doing so, possibly limited the carnage as it allowed students to flee the scene. Two other students were wounded in the playground shooting before the boy turned the semi-automatic handgun on himself, ending his own life.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and all those affected by such a horrible tragedy.
