In a couple of the most bizarre scenes that has ever occurred at a professional golf event, a squirrel became a major player in the coverage after Davis Love III, the assistant captain of the U.S. team, befriended a little squirrel and carried it around the course with him as he took in the action on the course.
Why did Davis Love III have a squirrel companion? Who knows? But the fact that he did set into motion an incident that will long be remembered much more than the actual Presidents Cup: Lindsey Vonn taking the squirrel from Davis Love III and putting it on boyfriend Tiger Woods’ shoulder.
Weird, wild stuff.
Here’s Davis with his new little critter buddy (via Eye on Golf):
And here’s Miss Vonn surprising Tiger with the squirrel, whom I will refer to as Rocky Squirrelton III:
And here is a screenshot capturing Vonn’s priceless reaction and Tiger’s mildly irritated response:
Great stuff. And for the record Tiger and his playing partner Matt Kuchar beat Angel Cabrera and Marc Leishman in Thursday’s fourball competition 5&4. I credit the squirrel.
Actually, throw that squirrel in the fantastic photo of Tiger, Phil Mickelson and Jason Dufner kicking it and you have the makings of, well, a photo of three golfers and a rodent, I guess. Huh.
