Pizza Pizza: Nate Burleson posts pics from car accident, says he wasn’t drunk (pics)

A little over a week ago, Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson was involved in a one-car accident that left him with a broken arm. Despite the seriousness of the injury, the Internet had a field day when the cause of the accident, in which Burleson’s SUV hit a center median in suburban Detroit on the way home after watching Monday Night Football with some teammates, was revealed: Burleson was trying to save a pizza box from slipping off the passenger seat.

Audio released by TMZ on Tuesday of a 911 call reveals that a witness to the accident suspected that Burleson may have been drunk, something he strongly denies.

In the audio of the 911 call, the witness states, “He looks a little messed up. He’s walking around, but if I had my guess I’d say he’s drunk.”

Burleson reacted to the accusation of the witness on Tuesday, telling TMZ, “I was completely coherent. I was trying to grasp what was going on at the moment.”

Burleson added that it was the injury to his arm, not booze that caused him to appear a bit out of it and perhaps wobbly.

“My arm was broken so that may cause you to stumble,” said Burleson, “but it was not alcohol-related at all.”

Later on Tuesday, Burleson posted some photos from the wreck to his Instagram account:

Showing that he has a sense of humor about it all and that he has nothing to hide, Burleson captioned the pics with the following message: “I’m releasing these pix for 2 reasons: 1) I walked away from a totalled vehicle #Blessed 2) I have to hear all the pizza jokes…lol I’ll start-Yes I am the 5th Ninja Turtle. #LovePizza #LetTheJokesBegin.”

Let the jokes begin? These photos only serve to add more opportunities for jokes and keep the humor going.

And still, what a waste of some mighty tasty-looking pizza. That’s the real tragedy here. A broken arm can heal, but a lost pizza can never be reclaimed or eaten and enjoyed.
