Robert Griffin III meets young fan with prosthetic leg bearing his likeness (photos)
In July, a photo surfaced on Facebook depicting how a young Washington Redskins fan’s prosthetic leg featured the face of quarterback Robert Griffin III. On Wednesday, the two met face-to-face.
The fan is 13-year-old Rico Felix, a Washington, D.C. native who traveled to Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va. to take in a little training camp action.
Little did Rico know that he would get the opportunity to meet his hero.
Griffin was understandably awed by the fact that someone would pay such a tribute to him, saying after seeing the RG3 prosthesis for the first time: “I’m speechless…I don’t know what I can say about that, except that it’s an honor.”
The Redskins Blog, the official blog of the team, reports that when Rico was born, his umbilical cord was wrapped around his right foot. Since then, he has upgraded the prosthetic leg as his growth has dictated, finally arriving at the RG3 model.
After they met and the quarterback signed a football for the young man, RG3 said “it would be an honor” to sign Rico’s prosthetic leg, which he did.
The young Redskins quarterback was moved by the encounter. “To think that someone would think that much of me to put it on their leg,” RG3 said. “I don’t know what I can say about that. It’s an honor.”
