Leaping Lepidopteras! Moth flies into A.J. Pierzynski’s mask (video)

During Wednesday evening’s tilt between the Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Rangers catcher had the unfortunate experience of a moth flying into his mask as he was seated behind the plate.

Actually, bugs buzzing around ballplayers isn’t an uncommon occurrence, nor should it be surprising. Anyone who has been to an outdoor ballgame can testify that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of those pesky insects flying around the stadium lights.

Pierzynski should just feel lucky it wasn’t a Cecropia Moth, a large species with a wingspan can measure up to six inches (/the more you know). Or Mothra, for that matter. We may have never seen A.J. ever again.
