Wednesday night’s game between the hometown Atlanta Braves and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies was briefly delayed after a bat made itself comfortable in the infield during the second inning.
Evoking a similar situation of when Angels reliever Dane De La Rosa carefully removed a bird from the field of play last month, Braves shortstop Pual Janish and the team’s bat boy (ha!) paired up, utilizing a glove and a towel, to safely and cautiously remove the winged mammal from the field. No outbreaks of rabies were reported, nor was there any mention of guano, thankfully.
Further, no word on whether or not the presence of the bat scared the dentures out of Phillies manager Charlie Manuel’s mouth. Hopefully not.
