Amar’e Stoudemire to join Lance Bass, other D-listers as Miss America judge
Amar’e Stoudemire may no longer be at the peak of his NBA career, and consequently, he is arguably no longer at the pinnacle of his fame. And yet, it is somewhat surprising that the New York Knicks star has signed on to be one of the judges at next month’s Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, N.J.
Not be too much of a drag or castigate the former N’Sync member too harshly, but anytime an offer is sweetened by mentioning that “Lance Bass will be there, too,” any celebrity, be they from the entertainment world or the arena of professional sports, should avoid the opportunity like grim death.
Via an AP report on NBA.com:
Joining them will be Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell; comedian and performer Mario Cantone; and Barbara Corcoran, an investor from ABC’s entrepreneurial competition show “Shark Tank.” Also on the panel are Carla Hall, co-host of ABC’s food-and-talk show “The Chew,” and Deidre Downs Gunn, an obstetrician and gynecologist who was the last Miss America to be crowned in Atlantic City.
Wait. No Mario Lopez? What the heck? And still, wow. Even without Lopez, that is a veritable list of who’s who in the fame game, that’s for sure. As in “Who’s who, exactly?”
Stoudemire, who has always enjoyed fraternizing with the glitterati and beautiful people who also possesses a keen sense of fashion, may be a good fit for the pageant, but perhaps it’s a bit too soon to add his name and lend his celebrity to that motley crew.
And just venturing a guess here, but something tells me given the lineup of judges that the Miss America pageant will air on ABC. Just a hunch.
