David Ortiz holds Red Sox fan’s baby during National Anthem (video)
As we all know, “Papi” means “Daddy” in English, so “Big Papi” David Ortiz demonstrated that it’s more than just a clever moniker when he took a BoSox fan’s baby from the dad and held the little bundle of joy during the performance of the National Anthem before the Boston Red Sox-Kansas City Royals game on Thursday at Kauffman Stadium.
Ortiz has three children with his wife Tiffany, so holding a baby is old hat for the 37-year-old veteran slugger.
Still, it was an adorable moment that showcased that Ortiz, a fierce competitor between the lines (well, in the batter’s box — the DH doesn’t get out in the field much) does in fact have a softer side. And that’s in spite of his recent dugout outburst when he violently smashed a phone, an act of aggression for which he was fined $5,000, although he is appealing the penalty.
But let’s move on to the cuteness.
Everybody go, “Awwwwww.” Because the adorable scene merits it.
