White Sox GM Rick Hahn quotes Jay-Z when discussing Alex Rodriguez situation
\Sure, the Chicago White Sox really haven’t turned things around this season after Rick Hahn was promoted and took over for Kenny Williams — who was elevated to Executive Vice President — as the team’s general manager. With a 41-69 record, the ChiSox currently are mired in last place in the AL Central, arguably one of the worst divisions in baseball, although not all the blame should ever be laid at the feet of a first-year general manager.
But how many MLB front office types would make reference to a Jay-Z song when illustrating his relief over not having to deal with the distractions related to the latest Alex Rodriguez mess.
Not many, I’d reckon.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday in the wake of A-Rod’s 211-game suspension, here’s what Hahn had to say about the debacle, of course while dropping some Jay-Z lyrics to illustrate just how hip and happening he is when it comes to what was going on in the rap game nearly 10 years ago, as reported by the CSN Chicago: “You’ve seen this team play recently: I’ve got 99 problems and A-Rod ain’t one of them,” Hahn said.
It should be noted that Hahn reportedly made the Jay-Z reference with a grin on his face. No word on whether he picked up a nearby microphone, dropped it on the ground and strutted away. Because it would have been dope if he had.
