G.I. Joe’s Snake Eyes throws out first pitch before A’s-Blue Jays game (video)

Before Tuesday’s game between the Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays at O.co Stadium, Snake Eyes, one of the two ninja-esque characters from the G.I. Joe universe (Storm Shadow being the other *cough* nerd *cough*), threw out the ceremonial first pitch. For some reason.

And the worst part? He didn’t do a very good job of it. For a character highly skilled in martial arts and hand-to-hand combat and all that other good stuff, one would assume Snake Eyes would possess the manual dexterity to pull off a simple pitch. And yet, we have learned many, many times before

Via MLB.com:

Yeah, not good. Tennis hottie Daniela Hantuchova fared much, much better in her effort. Same goes for Olivia Munn. But not Tiffany Hwang. And those three looked fantastic doing it.

And the entire scene remains strange and a bit confusing. I mean, it would have been one thing had Snake Eyes pulled off some insane flip-pitch thingy, like that Cirque de Soleil performer did a few years back, but Snake Eyes’ pitch was short and in the dirt.

The reason that having Snake Eyes throw out a first pitch is so curious is that there really isn’t anything G.I. Joe-related worth promoting. “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” came out in late March so there’s no real tie-in as far as I can tell.
Of course, I could be missing something. I guess just because a person is impersonating a character who is a reputed expert in special ops doesn’t necessarily mean he (or she) can pitch. And now I know. And knowing is half the battle.
