Charl Schwartzel’s 6-iron snaps after he violently throws club (video)
Something tells me Charl Schwartzel might have allowed himself to become a bit frustrated during his first round of the British Open. Actually, “a bit frustrated” may be a massive understatement after witnessing the huge meltdown Schwartzel suffered on Muirfield’s 15th hole after he hit a shot he clearly was not happy with.
On his second shot and 168 yards out with a 6-iron in his hand and already sitting at 3-over, Schwartzel shimmied, pulled back the club and swung.
Almost instantly it became clear Schwartzel wasn’t pleased. In fact, he was downright pissed, violently winding up and chucking his 6-iron with an incredible amount of frustrated aggression. The club snapped upon impact. Not good.
Between Charl’s eruption and Rory’s horrible misplay, the 15th has not been a friendly hole. It at the very least fractured the psyches of two golfers.
He ended up notching a double bogey after holing out … and with one less club in his bag.
