Logan Morrison whiffs on Gatorade bath meant for teammate, reporter (video)
In what appears to be an increasingly growing trend in Major League Baseball, Miami Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison (a favorite here at the Sportress) attempted to douse Giancarlo Stanton (and through no fault of her own except being in the wrong place at the wrong time, a Marlins sideline reporter), after his teammate’s two-run homer in the eighth inning sparked Miami to a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The young woman, FOXSports reporter Allison Williams, takes it all in stride — although she does point out that LoMo appeared to be trying to douse her with the jug of Gatorade that appeared to be more ice than liquid — and continues her interview with Stanton (via MLB.com):
As noted above, the postgame Gatorade dousing (or in some cases, Powerade) appears to be replacing the more traditional shaving cream pieing that typically was employed to simultaneously congratulate while humiliating a player as he is interviewed because of his in-game heroics. Even Dodgers rookie phenom Yasiel Puig was introduced to the practice last week as well.
But, given the bulky nature of a Gatorade jug and the difficulty associated with maneuvering it into dumping position, sometimes players are afforded enough time to elude the dousing, as was the case when Ryan Braun tried to soak teammate Carlos Gomez in the dugout a few weeks ago. Still, it’s all in good fun. Especially when a reporter gets it, too. Unfair, but hilarious.
