Last month, Kentucky-based bourbon producer Maker’s Mark announced that it would pay tribute to Rick Pitino for leading the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team to a national title by releasing 12,600 bottles of its product bearing his image.
On Tuesday, the time of the big press conference finally arrived and Coach Pitino even was on hand for the official unveiling the bottles.

Maker’s Mark also announced on Tuesday that $500,000 worth of proceeds from the sales of the booze will go to Louisville’s Academic Center of Excellence.
“We couldn’t do what we’re doing from an academic standpoint without sponsors like Maker’s Mark,” Pitino said. “We’re going to raise a lot of money from this.
According to SB Nation, the bottles of booze will be made available to the public on Friday with Pitino holding a public signing at some point in the future.
Pitino is the second Louisville coach to be commemorated on a Maker’s Mark bottle. Last year, head football coach Charlie Strong experienced similar treatment as Pitino, something that was also greeted with much fanfare.
But gee whiz, getting tattoos, appearing on bottles of liquor. What’s next for Rick Pitino as he continues his metamorphosis to glorified rock star status? A commemorative Corvette bearing his face on the hood? A nose ring? A Fender Stratocaster bearing his likeness? Who knows?
