Aaron Hicks makes amazing catch, hits 2 homers, gets Gatorade bath and pied (vids)
It turned out to be an amazing day at the ballpark for Minnesota Twins center Fielder Aaron Hicks on Monday night at Target Field as the Twinkies hosted the Chicago White Sox. Mired in an epic slump to start off the season (.152 avg) that saw the young man get bumped down the lineup from the leadoff position, the rookie broke out of his early season batter’s box doldrums by going 2-for-3 at the plate, both hits being home runs in the Twins’ 10-3 shellacking of the Pale Hose. Not only was it the first multi-homer game, it was the first multi-hit game of his young career.
Not only was Hicks impressive at the plate, he topped his hitting performance with a Catch of the Year candidate when he robbed Adam Dunn of a two-run homer in the top of the sixth when he rose high above the center field wall and snatched Dunn’s drive back into the field of play.
And while he missed out on making a curtain call after his second homer of the night in the bottom half of the sixth after his incredible grab in the top-half of the same inning, Hicks nevertheless was rewarded for his phenomenal night by receiving a Gatorade shower from his teammates and the customary pie to the face during a post-game interview.
