Houston Rockets v Oklahoma City Thunder - Game Five

When the controversial Westboro Baptist Church protested outside of Chesapeake Energy Arena on Wednesday during Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, it was assumed that an ugly scene was not only possible, but likely.

However, a group of gay rights supporters with some colorful signs stole the show. Check out the photos below:

Oklahoma City’s KFOR-TV also aired the following report on the events of the evening:

The Westboro Baptist Church is notorious for picketing and protesting outside of events to espouse its anti-homosexuality agenda. When NBA center Jason Collins announced his homosexuality earlier this week, the church had a new target: the NBA.

A news release from the church indicated its intentions as follows, as reported by Huffington Post: “Now has-been pervert Jason Collins has ‘come out’ admitting he’s a proud fag,” officials write in the release. “Lift up your voice against this awful sin; use the platform God gave you to warn your fellow man to flee destruction.”
