Lars Eller taken off ice on a stretcher after brutal hit by Eric Gryba (video)
During the second period of Game 1 between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators at Bell Centre, Habs center Lars Eller was on the receiving end of a vicious, high hit to the head from Senators defenseman Eric Gryba. Eller immediately crumpled to the ice. In a gruesome and disturbing scene, a pool of blood immediately began to form underneath him.
A bad zone-clearing pass from Raphael Diaz left Eller a sitting duck and Gryba unloaded on him.

Ugly hit. It looks like Eller may have hit is face or head on the ice as he fell. And while the video doesn’t show it, Eller was eventually carried off on a stretcher.
Gryba was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the dangerous hit. Whether it was an intentional dirty hit or not, odds are he’ll be hearing from the NHL sooner rather than later. Let’s hope Eller is doing better than how the aftermath this brutal hit would lead one to believe.
