Sign outside Memphis business: ‘Go Grizzlies – Clippers are Wieners’ (photo)

Fans of the Memphis Grizzlies, likely still smarting a bit from last season’s contentious playoff series, are hurting just a bit more now in light of Chris Paul’s late-game heroics. CP3’s incredible buzzer beater allowed the Los Angeles Clippers to take a commanding 2-0 series lead over their beloved NBA team courtesy of the Clips’ win on Monday by a score of 93-91.

So it should come as no surprise that members of the greater Memphis community have felt the need to express their displeasure, disappointment and animosity about the outcome of the game. And of course, the vitriol is directed squarely at the Clippers and not the Grizzlies for getting down so quickly in the series.

Even one business owner (and certainly¬† not the first time a sign has been used for sports-related discourse) — or the folks in charge of putting up the text on the sign located outside this particular business — are getting in on the Clippers haterade action.

Outdoors Inc. — a business dedicated to “outfitting human powered recreation” according to its sign — recently put up the following message on its business sign:

Ha. Fantastic. Wieners. To the point, concise and not expressed in an overtly highfalutin manner. A message devoid of pretentiousness and suitable for the masses, it could be said.

Referring to a rival team as a bunch of wieners? A derogatory slight, while slightly crass, is relatively PG in nature and not used enough in this profanity-obsessed day and age.
