Take a trip in the wayback machine by having a look-see at a scouting report prepared by a Colorado Rockies scout in 1992 regarding a talented young prospect out of Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The player? Derek Jeter. You may have heard of him. Plays for the Yankees. Won some World Series. On a lesser note, a notorious lady-killing Lothario of some renown. And so on and so forth.

As the 38-year-old, 18-season MLB veteran continues his rehab from ankle surgery, the scouting report reveals just how gifted a ballplayer Derek Jeter was in high school and the seemingly limitless potential he possessed all those years ago, potential that has been more than fully realized.

Via the Twitter account of Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson (by way of BuzzFeed), who notes that the document will featured in an exhibit devoted to scouting in Cooperstown:

The money quote/observation: “This guy is special. You get excited just watching him warm up. All-Star pot[ential].”

Hey, when you’re right, you’re right.
