Kevin Durant takes to Instagram to concede NBA scoring title (photo)
With Oklahoma Thunder superstar Kevin Durant’s scoring average currently sitting at 28.1 points/game, according to some statistical calculations courtesy of the wonder that is mathematics, the only chance he had of securing his fourth straight NBA season scoring title was to drop 70 points on the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night in the team’s season finale. This is based on the assumption that New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony will not suit up for his team’s season finale on Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden, meaning he will finish the season at 28.7 points/game.
Even Durant’s head coach, Scott Brooks, as reported by The Oklahoman, opined that the chances were slim to none, saying, “He has no shot,” before adding, “I guarantee you he won’t get it.”
Perhaps Brooks knew something no one else did at the time he made that statement, because on Wednesday morning, Durant announced via his Instagram account that he will concede the scoring title to Carmelo as he will not be playing in Wednesday’s game against the Bucks, opting instead to sit and prepare himself for the grind that is the NBA Playoffs.
Durant went about announcing his decision with a screengrab of a “Note” on an iPhone screen (via @sniperjones35):
Oh well, indeed.
