Mark Cuban refers to Phil Jackson as the ‘first housewife of the Lakers’
With the Dallas Mavericks visiting STAPLES Center to take on the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night, team owner Mark Cuban happened to be in attendance for Shaquille O’Neal’s jersey retirement ceremony that occurred during halftime. And while there has been discussion about Kobe Bryant skipping out on the ceremony, only appearing via taped segment, Cuban won the evening for his expertly crafted zinger made at the expense of former Lakers coach and Zen Master of some renown, Phil Jackson, who was on hand to make a speech during the ceremony.
For those who wish to watch the ceremony, here’s the video:
Speaking before the ceremony, Cuban made light of Jackson’s status as the fiancé of Jeanie Buss, the Lakers executive vice president of business operations, by saying, “I have great respect for Phil, Jeanie’s husband, as he’ll be now be known,” adding, “Someone’s got to be the first housewife of the Lakers.”
Zing! You just got roasted by Mark Cuban, Phil Jackson! Take that!
I expect a witty and clever comeback via a member of Jackson’s marketing and publicity staff, otherwise known the person who tweets from his personal Twitter account, sooner rather than later. It’s on.
