A great internet mystery quickly has been solved due to Boston Bruins center Tyler Seguin claiming to be the man responsible for the foreign object that fell in a fan’s beer who was sitting behind the Bruins bench during the team’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.

Originally, it was believed that Bruins assistant coach Geoff Ward was the individual responsible for polluting the man’s cup of suds, as Ward can be seen in the video throwing his earpiece up in the air just before the foreign object descends and drops into the fan’s beer.

But both Tyler Seguin and Geoff Ward came clean on Tuesday about the incident, with Seguin copping to the cup crime, admitting that the object in question was a packet of smelling salts he had just partaken in before the start of the third period.

First, the incident in question from Monday night’s game:

Saying that he sometimes will use the smelling salts to wake him up, Seguin sets the record straight that his casual toss of the smelling salts over the glass was the cause of all the commotion:

There you have it. Ward has been exonerated and Seguin now is the man who should discover the identity of his victim and reimburse the guy for his ruined beer. Because there’s no way he drank it after the smelling salts landed in his beer, right? Not only would that have been nasty, but also potentially toxic.
