Maybe having Hooters gals serve as ball girls isn’t such a good idea after all… (videos)
It probably seemed like a genius move in its inception to the Phillies: Instead of having kids — both young men and young women — who might have a decent chance of fielding a ball hit their way man the positions down the foul lines, why not plop some Hooters gals at those spots and see what happens?
Of course, the eye candy aspect of having Hooters gals serve as ball girls cannot be questioned, but the slim-to-none likelihood of these attractive ladies competently performing the tasks required of them cannot be overemphasized.
Take a gander below at three instances that occurred during Tuesday’s spring training ballgame between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, two of which were committed in the same inning by the Hooters gal working the right field line.
Here’s Hooters Gal #1 and her experiences attempting to snatch two foul balls in the third inning (via Busted Coverage):
Ouch. She really booted those grounders, eh? And the fans at Bright House Field at Clearwater, Fla. really let her have it, booing her less-than-successful efforts.
And here’s her counterpart over on the right field line, to whom we will refer to as Hooters Gal #2 for the purposes of consistency (via Big League Stew):
Man oh man, not only did this young lady nearly get drilled by the foul ball, she also almost got plowed over on that one. Gotta keep your head in the game, Hooters Gal #2, and clear out when you see a baseball player bearing down upon you at full speed. Usually, it’s an indication that something is going on close to you. Sheesh.
Perhaps these kind of train wrecks are what was envisioned when the decision was made to have Hooters Gals serve as ball girls. Perhaps not. Either way, it is entertaining. No sense in arguing that. And they sure do look good while being bad at their jobs, right? I guess fielding balls hit out of play at baseball games is trickier than carrying a tray loaded with beers and wings. Learn something new every day, I guess.
