Minor league hockey’s Syracuse Crunch have a pseudo-phone sex billboard ad (pic)

Minor league teams, no matter the sports, always seem to go above and beyond when it comes to promoting the franchise, frequently more than willing to attempt things and concepts no professional organization would ever dare dream of doing. The American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch are one such example of a minor league organization letting its marketing freak flag fly.

The Crunch, the primary development affiliate for the Tampa Bay Lightning, let it all hang out with a recent billboard advertising campaign. On the sign, a Crunch player can be seen posing, uh, seductively (?), draped on top of a goal, phone in hand and imploring fans looking “For a good time” to call and order tickets, evoking imagery one is more accustomed to seeing in a racy phone sex ad. And it is as fantastic and hilarious as it is slightly off-putting and somewhat disturbing.

Oh my. Well played, I think, Syracuse Crunch. Now that, my friends, is nightmare fuel-causing brilliance. Wow.

UPDATE: Puck Daddy has published a clearer image of the billboard as well another sign that made its appearance last September that is much more, shall we say, less troubling:

Yeah, that’s better.
