JaVale McGee dunks all over Hamed Haddadi, then bows to him (video)

By now, we should all accept that not only is JaVale McGee a talented basketball player, he in also an interesting bird. Odds are whenever his name comes up, it usually involves something peculiar, amusing, or both.

The Denver Nuggets were in Arizona on Monday to take on the Phoenix Suns at US Airways Center. About midway through the 4th quarter, McGee was on the receiving end of a nifty alley-oop from teammate Corey Brewer. McGee rose, caught the well-placed lob pass and proceeded to throw down a thunderous one-handed dunk all over Suns center Hamed Haddadi.

Of course, JaVale McGee being JaVale McGee, he wasn’t content simply letting his athletic skills and powerful slam speak for themselves. Instead, McGee elected to add some flavor to his post-dunk celebration.

Once the play was over and a foul was called, McGee, treating Haddadi like a defeated foe in a martial arts match, introduced some Dojo-inspired moves to the hardwood by respectfully bowing to his vanquished opponent.

I suppose McGee’s bow can be considered a gesture of goodwill and respect. But unless Haddadi responded in kind, I imagine the Sensei of the Dojo will be most displeased. If there were a Sensei on the court and this wasn’t a basketball game.

The Nuggets did go on to win the team’s ninth-straight game, beating the Suns by a score of 108-93, but despite his Kung-Fu demonstration, McGee only contributed 8 points and 5 boards. But then again, it’s not the size of the contribution, it’s the manner in which one goes about it. Or something.
