The Dallas Stars were in Ohio on Monday night to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the game was light on offense and the Stars came up short on the road, losing to the hometown squad by a score of 2-1, little blame can be laid at the feet of Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen. Among his 25 saves on the night was this stupendous display of goaltending, in which he miraculously makes in essence two saves on a shot by Jack Johnson.
After the puck off Johnson’s stick glances off Lehtonen’s glove and continues towards the net, the Stars goalie somehow contorts his body, reaches back and snags the puck out of the air before it crosses the goal line.
Man alive, my back hurts just watching how Lehtonen twists to snatch that puck. Easily the best save of this delayed and truncated NHL season. Kari Lehtonen has laid down the gauntlet. Let’s see what the other goaltenders in the NHL have up their sleeves in their collective efforts to top this brilliant demonstration of savvy goaltending.
