On Wednesday, USA Hockey published a fantastic photo of brothers Jim and John Harbaugh from their days playing youth hockey. You may have heard before that the two are head coaches of NFL teams and that Jim Harbaugh, as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and John Harbaugh, as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, will be facing off against one another in Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3. It’s an interesting angle, two brothers facing each other in a Super Bowl. I’m surprised more news outlets haven’t picked up on that angle and jumped on that story yet.
Anyhoo, the competitive nature of the Brothers Harbaugh has been well-documented. What hasn’t been documented, though, is the possibility that Jim may have been what folks kindly refer to as a “troubled child,” as evidenced by the phenomenal photo below:
It shouldn’t be too difficult to identify young Jim given the setup above, but yep, that’s him in the middle of the back row. Boy, talk about an intense kid.
John is to the left standing next to the coach, perhaps serving as a buffer between the unidentified man from his younger, perhaps unhinged, brother.
If one were trying to connect some childhood developmental issue that later manifested itself in his adult persona and in turn, would help explain Jim’s epic meltdown during the NFC Championship Game…
…methinks another piece of the puzzle just fell into place. It’s all beginning to make sense now.
