Baltimore offers up response to erroneous ‘Ray Lewis Retirement Party’ billboard (pic)

Last week, as part of the buildup to the showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, an outfit called Clear Channel Communications erected a billboard (above) in Lawrence, Mass. (and reportedly other locales as well throughout the Boston area), boldly predicting that the Ray Lewis Retirement Party was set to kick off shortly after the Ravens were vanquished at the conclusion of a victory by the Patriots on Sunday evening.

Sadly for the folks who came up with the smack-talking billboard, “Ray’s Retirement Party” was not to be, rendering their countdown clock moot, not to mention something that could be looked upon as a bold prediction-turned-jinx by Patriots fans.

Be that as it may, in response, billboards are being erected throughout Baltimore bearing a much different message.

Zing. Well played.

Lewis commented upon the original billboard following the AFC Championship game in typical Ray Lewis fashion by saying, “I was hurt when I saw a sign that actually said my retirement would [start] tonight. Man can’t dictate that. God dictates that.”

Clear Channel owned up to its erroneous prediction on Monday with the following tweet:

I suppose Clear Channel deserves at least some credit for that display of humility.

hey baltimore, congratulations. Now act like you’ve been there before. I’ve never heard so much BS after a win in my life. Suggs; shut up. Pollard: shut up. Lewis: shut up. I could go on and on, and you haven’t even won anything yet.

Hey don, how about Brady and Belichick? No interviews, classless kicks to special areas, not to mention the hit on Pitta that should’ve drawn a flag? Get over it, you lost, move on. Suggs was right; you are a bunch of arrogant (and ignorant) people.

I cannot believe the arrogance that has transpired in the last 48 hours. It’s ridiculous and childish. So what the patriots didn’t win. Get over it already. Can’t win them all. I’m a very proud Ravens fan, and I’ll be proud of them whether they win or lose. They are the best of the best, and your jealousy won’t change their game. Ray Lewis is a good man and gives back to the Baltimore community. As a matter of fact, they all do! They deserve this, and I wish them all nothing but the best and good luck. Oh, and sore losers get the worst karma so be careful how you address and approach things, no matter what they are. Look at the lot-of-nothing the Steelers have been doing lately. Caw!!!

What’s with the Steelers bashing? Congratulations to the hated Ravens for getting this far. Now shut up and try to win or nobody remembers. I believe the Steelers have been in 3 Super Bowls since the Ravens’ one and only appearance, winning two of them.
While you have cause to celebrate and be excited for your team, don’t be a douche like most Ravens fans and glorify that murderer turned football player into a god-like entity. Can’t wait til he opens his church. My God, enough already! As for New England, a bunch of classless idiots starting with the coach.

The vicious attacks by some Pats fans are simply amazing to me. Makes no sense? The Ravens lost in last years championship game and the people of Baltimore did not attack the Pats for winning? Also, every summer when I go to Orioles games (and I have gone for the past 40 years) the Red Socks fans are always classy, friendly and fun to sit with and enjoy a baseball game on a pretty summer evening (regardless of who wins or loses.) Does the same group of people simply turn into total asswipes when it comes to the Pats? Heck, we are used to the New Yorkers coming into our city and acting like jerks when the Yankees come to town so I would expect bad behavior thier football fans but not from the people of Boston. I am still scratching my head? What happened to all of the friendly, fun-loving and passionate but classy Red Socks fans who innundate Baltimore and have sat near me both in Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards every summer for the past 40 years? Maybe they are just not into football? Crazy!

I have to agree w/ Ravensfan101, although Ray Lewis made a mistake in the past, he is making up for it. He took responsibility for his actions and is making up for it the best way he can. No one is calling him a saint, he’s just a good guy is all. Before my nephew died Ray visited him every chance he got. He made him smile and laugh went he was at his worst. So, please have some respect. People shouldn’t put shame on Ravens fans. That’s not fair. Your favorite and/or home team gets their shot at glory, you wouldn’t want anyone bashing you for it. They’re a good team, and they’ve proved that time and time again. So they haven’t made it past a championship game, but they were playing in them, right? It’s their time to shine for once. You have to admit, they are a pretty good damn team. To not acknowledge that is pretty rude.
