ESPN spot with Henrik Lundqvist and The Muppets’ Swedish Chef is fantastic (vid)
If there’s one thing that ESPN always does right, it’s these “This is SportsCenter” commercials. All the way back to Charley Steiner’s “FOLLOW ME TO FREEDOM!” spot and up to John Clayton’s recent tour de force performance as a metalhead living with his mom (not to mention the outtakes), there have been a few rare misses along the way, but overall these spots that are rolled out to promote ESPN’s flagship show have been consistently excellent.
And now we get to add another one to the pantheon of excellent “This is SportsCenter” commercials. In this one, New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, is the only person on the Bristol campus who can understand the cafeteria’s new employee, “a world-renowned chef,” even. Who is it? None other than the Swedish Chef from The Muppets.
Lundqvist is Swedish, you see. That’s why he can understand the Swedish Chef. But I’m sure you could figure that one out on your own. It’s not like any of you were thinking it was because he’s a Muppet, right?
Now, if we could only get ESPN to actually cover real-live, NHL hockey. Then we’d be in business.
