“No Cup is Safe,” the new commercial featuring Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, the dynamic duo who together comprise a duarchy and collectively are the torch-bearers of the Nike Golf brand, certainly is a great spot and has attracted a lot of attention since its release earlier this week.
But it is now being reported that while it is an impressive commercial, because of scheduling issues, the two PGA Tour superstars’ parts in the commercial were filmed separately. The magic of modern technology, indeed.
Perhaps just as interesting is that the commercial reportedly was shot way back in October. McIlroy’s part reportedly was shot first and a few days later Tiger did his part with a stand-in reading Rory’s lines. Despite being shot days apart and the two never being at the shoot at the same time, both Rory and Tiger spent several hours filming their respective parts for the commercial, where the two engage in one-upmanship while exchanging some playful banter.
Watching the commercial again with the knowledge that the two shot their parts in the spot separately, it becomes quite evident that Tiger and Rory never appear close to one another in a single shot.
And for anyone may venture an opinion that this development means that the two rivals aren’t quite as chummy with one another as we have been led to believe, to those people, I demand this: Explain these hilarious photos. People can’t act this awkward and chummy at the same time, no matter how skilled they are at feigned friendliness.
